30 Rock + Metal Bands With More Than One Singer

There are at least 30 rock and metal bands that have (or had) more than one singer.

In some cases, there's one lead vocalist and another member of the band occasionally sings lead on a song or two. In other bands, several members all contribute lead vocals equally, either across different songs or even verses within the same song.

Every group has their own reason for the decision to have multiple singers, whether it was because they all had damn good voices or simply wanted to implement different sounds into the songs. Perhaps the most famous example is The Beatles, in which all four members wrote songs and took turns singing lead.

Other groups became known for the way two distinct voices complemented each other, such is the case with Alice in Chains. The haunting vocal harmonizing made famous by the late Layne Staley and guitarist Jerry Cantrell became part of the band's signature sound, though it's now current singer William DuVall sharing that duty with Cantrell.

Linkin Park are another iconic example: Chester Bennington handled the melodic vocals and screams from the beginning of the band until his death in 2017 while Mike Shinoda mainly rapped and delivered spoken vocals. In 2024, Emily Armstrong became Shinoda's co-vocalist.

Having more than one vocalist is pretty common in the metalcore world as well, as many bands have one singer for clean vocals and one for unclean, allowing more diversity in the sound.
