Drivers Beware: Major I-75 Closure Begins Near Flint
If your daily routine takes you down I-75 through Genesee County, you'll want to leave yourself a little extra time.
Why One Lane Of I-75 Is Closed Near Flint
Starting today and running through June 12, one lane of southbound I-75 is closed between US-23 and Court Street as part of a major road improvement project. The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing nearly $7 million to resurface more than four miles of the freeway in both directions. While that's good news for drivers in the long run, it could mean some frustrating slowdowns in the short term.

The closure affects the far-left lane and left shoulder on southbound I-75 near Flint. Crews will be milling off the old pavement and laying down new asphalt, along with making other improvements such as shoulder corrugations and fresh pavement markings.
Additional Closures Could Be Coming
This likely won't be the only traffic impact drivers see. According to ABC12, MDOT says there could be additional single-lane and double-lane closures, along with occasional ramp closures, as work moves through the project area. Any necessary detours will be posted.

The good news is that this isn't a quick patch job. This is a larger investment designed to improve a heavily traveled stretch of freeway that thousands of Genesee County drivers use every day.
How Long The I-75 Project Will Last
If you're heading to work, traveling through Flint, or planning a trip south on I-75 this week, it may be worth checking traffic before you head out. A few extra minutes of planning could save you a lot of time sitting in construction traffic.
