Burton Community Mourns Concrete Contractor Greg Streeter

There are people in our community who make a tremendous impact without ever asking for recognition. They don't want the spotlight. They don't need applause. They're simply driven by a desire to work hard, help others, and leave things better than they found them. One of those people was Greg Streeter.

Greg was the quiet powerhouse behind Streeter Brothers Concrete Contractors in Burton, and following his passing earlier this month, it's become incredibly clear just how many lives he touched throughout Mid-Michigan and beyond.

Hundreds Gather to Honor Burton’s Greg Streeter

I attended Greg's funeral service this morning, and honestly, I was overwhelmed by what I saw. When I pulled into the funeral home, I was shocked by how many people had come to honor him and support the Streeter family. Collaborators, friends, members of the community, and even competitors from within his industry were all there.

The turnout was so large that the funeral home had to open the room divider to make space for everyone who wanted to pay their respects. That moment said everything. Greg may not have been someone who sought attention, but the people around him knew exactly what kind of man he was.

From Flint Radio to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island

I was introduced to Greg and his son Joe through Flint radio veteran Johnny Burke. We had worked together years earlier at one of my former radio jobs when we were asked to document an incredible project.

Streeter Brothers had taken on the reconstruction of the famous pool at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. And no, this wasn't some simple summer construction project.

The work was completed during a brutal Michigan winter in the Straits of Mackinac. Despite the enormous challenges, the project was finished ahead of schedule, and the pool was ready well before the season opened. The work was so impressive that the project went on to receive several awards.

Greg Streeter Supported Charities Throughout Mid-Michigan

But Greg's legacy goes far beyond concrete. He and his family have been major supporters of local charities and organizations throughout the area, including their annual Christmas event benefiting the Old Newsboys of Flint.

Greg loved helping people. Many of those people probably never knew exactly who was responsible for the generosity that made a difference in their lives. That's just the kind of person he was.

Helping His Community In The Shadows, Never Wanting Recognition

He didn't need recognition. Helping was enough. Greg was a husband, father, grandfather, friend, businessman, and community advocate. He built a remarkable legacy that will continue through his son Joe and the entire Streeter family.

It was an honor to know him, work alongside him, and get a small glimpse into his world. Greg Streeter made Mid-Michigan a better place. And although his presence will be deeply missed, his heart, generosity, and impact will continue to live on through the countless people whose lives he changed. Thank you, Greg, for being exactly who you were. You will be missed by many.
