Drunk Driver Accused of Killing Family on I-75 Facing Murder Charges

Last week, we told you about the absolutely heartbreaking crash on I-75 near Holly that killed four people, including two toddlers. Now there's a major update, and the charges are about as serious as they get.

Virginia Man Accused in Deadly I-75 Crash Near Holly

According to Fox 2 Detroit, 27-year-old Charles Dean Pace, from Virginia, was behind the wheel of a Ford F-250 on July 1, flying down I-75 at more than 90 mph while weaving through traffic.

To make matters worse, his blood alcohol level was more than three times Michigan's legal limit.

That's when his truck crashed into a family's disabled Chrysler 300 that was sitting on the shoulder of the freeway.

Inside that car were 23-year-old Zakeria Sharon Dodson, 24-year-old Tieree Powell, 3-year-old Nalani Powell, and 2-year-old Karter Powell. None of them survived.

Why the Driver Is Facing Second-Degree Murder Charges

Instead of stopping at drunk driving causing death charges, prosecutors are taking it a step further and charging Pace with four counts of second-degree murder.

You don't see murder charges filed in drunk driving cases very often, but prosecutors believe Pace's alleged actions were over the top. They say driving drunk, speeding over 90 mph, and weaving through traffic wasn't just reckless; it showed a complete disregard for everyone else on the road.

If he's convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.

An entire family gone, simply because one man allegedly made the terrible decision to drink and drive.
