The LaPiazza project planned for Saginaw Street in Grand Blanc has been paused.

I had heard rumblings about this a few weeks ago, and it has now been confirmed.

If you’re not familiar with the La Piazza project, it was designed to be more than just a dining destination. The development was originally planned to include residential units along with retail space, creating a multi-purpose destination for the Grand Blanc area.
If you live in the Grand Blanc area, chances are you already know the Crossbow Inn is part of the development plans. The restaurant is currently closed.
Ziggy’s Ice Cream shop was also planned as part of the new space, and that is now where the issue appears to be centered.

Why is the LaPiazza project on hold?

According to ABC 12, the couple who own Ziggy's Ice Cream shop are getting a divorce, and an agreement could not be reached (as of now) on the transfer of the property.

You may recall it was announced in September 2025 that Ziggy’s would not be opening for the 2026 season; however, the popular spot is, in fact, currently open.

Again, the project has not been completely cancelled - it is currently on hold. We will continue to keep you updated as more information is released.

Do you live in the Grand Blanc area, and are you - or were you - looking forward to the La Piazza development?
